Artist Statement

Mitch studied printed textiles and embroidery at Cumbria Institute of the Arts where she successfully achieved a BA (Hons.) and an MA (Dist) in 2005. She specialises in printed and dyed cloth. Her work uses a Japanese process known as Shibori and Indigo Dyeing: the cloth is then constructed into stage costumes. She is also interested in the collaborative process, working with artists in other media. "It allows you to take your work in different directions, as well as giving it a new and exciting platform to work on." In a recent collaborative project with Choreographer Gill Roncarelli, Mitch designed costumes for three dancers, using shibori techniques. This dance was filmed by Media Production students. A dvd was produced called 'Shibori Landscape'.

Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions regionally, nationally and internationally.

Mitch currently works as a Senior Technician and as a Graduate Research Assistant to Angie Wyman. She works with Angie in setting up this textile network.
